The Ryan White program requires a schedule of charges/sliding fee scale and caps on charges be in place based on a patient’s individual income.
Description
This policy describes the schedule of charges/sliding fee scale and caps on charges for Ryan White services at the Infectious Disease Group Practice. No patient will be refused care for inability to pay.
Caps on Charges
The Ryan White program requires that patients be charged no more than a maximum amount in a calendar year or a cap on out-of-pocket charges. The cap on charges is based on a percent of an individual gross income according to the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) in the chart below.
Sliding Fee Scale
The Ryan White program requires that there is a schedule of charges or sliding fee scale be imposed based on a patient’s annual gross income. The program prohibits fees be imposed on individuals with income below 100% FPL. Fees are required on individuals with income greater than 100% FPL. In the IDGP, the sliding fee scale is based on a flat rate.
Policy and Procedure
During the intake and enrollment process patients will be screened for financial eligibility and proof of income collected. The sliding fee scale for services and caps on charges will be discussed during the intake process and patients will be provided a handout of the policy. Fees for services will be determined based on the following sliding fee scale.
